Arild Tofting is a graduate engineer (M.Sc.) in mechanics. He has almost 25 years of experience as a patent attorney, and he has drafted several hundred patent applications in a variety of technical fields such as medical technologies, fisheries, wind power and tidal power. His main area of expertise is offshore technology.

Arild worked as an Examiner at the Norwegian Industrial Property Office for 4 years, where he examined applications within lifting and hoisting equipment.

Arild has carried out a large number of freedom-to-operate evaluations (FTO), assessing the scope for freedom in relation to patents held by competitors. On several occasions he has assisted clients with legal proceedings and has also worked as a lay judge in a few patent cases.

He has recently been appointed as a board member of the newly established Norwegian Board of Appeal for Industrial Property Rights.

Arild is very much involved in international work. He is currently Reporter General for CET, the largest working group in the International Federation of Intellectual Property Attorneys (FICPI). He participates in meetings in the organisation several times a year. This means that Arild is up to date on all international changes within intellectual protection.
